Thousands of Giants fans crowded downtown San Francisco sidewalks and the Civic center today to celebrate the first ever San Francisco Giants World Championship Parade in sunny, 70 degree weather.
The parade started in the financial district, went down Market Street and ended up at the Civic Center.
Giants team members, Hall of Fame winners Willie McCovey and Willie Mays and other civic dignitaries traveled the route in convertibles and cable cars on wheels. They were rained on with confetti as they moved along the parade route.
Brian Wilson fans wore painted black beards on their faces and t-shirts reading, “Fear the Beard.”
Audrey Huff waved his lucky red thong at fans.
When they arrived at the Civic Center, Mayor Gavin Newsom presented the Giants’ team with a key to the city. Tim Lincecum and several other Giants spoke at the Civic Center gathering.
Estimated turn-out for the celebration ranged from over 100,000 to over a million.
