San Francisco Giants Announce AT&T Park Improvements

During its annual Media Open House, the San Francisco Giants today unveiled a number of off-season improvements to AT&T Park aimed at greatly enhancing the overall fan experience.   The team also outlined its plans for the 2012 season which features, two World Series reunions for the 1962 and 2002 teams, a Turn Back the Century game and the introduction of the hottest trend in giveaway items  – the gnome.

On Friday, April 13, at 1:35 p.m. the Giants will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in their 55th Home Opener in San Francisco and 130th campaign overall.  The AT&T Opening Series will feature a special reunion of the 1962 team to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first World Series in San Francisco featuring the Giants and New York Yankees.  More than 14 members of the 1962 team will participate in the ceremony – including former Giants manager Alvin Dark, Don Larsen, Juan Marichal, Willie McCovey and Willie Mays.

The AT&T Opening Series will continue with Opening Night Fireworks presented by Hanwha Solar on Saturday, April 14.  On Sunday, April 15, Giants Welcome Mats presented by Toyota will be given to the first 20,000 fans.

Fans visiting AT&T Park will find significant changes to the Promenade Level.  Improvements were designed to enhance the overall fan experience by improving circulation, lighting and views to the playing field.

Promenade Level Upgrades (AT&T Park’s main concourse is accessible to all fans and the only level where fans can walk completely around the park):

  • Circulation space was added and views to the field have been restored by relocating concession stands away from the field-side of the concourse.  New lighting and signage have been installed to create a more open and inviting environment throughout the concourse.
  • Restrooms have been reconfigured throughout the concourse and additional capacity has been added to the restroom in left field.  The new men’s restroom at Section 132/133 features Northern California’s best view from a public bathroom – a beautiful view looking east to the Bay Bridge.
  • The narrow Fan Lot Bridge connecting the Promenade concourse to the Coca-Cola Fan Lot has been replaced by Ghirardelli Square South.  This new space spans the full width of the Fan Lot and will feature an additional location for Ghirardelli sweets and sundaes.  Adjacent to this space will be a full service concession stand featuring burgers and garlic fries and many of the ballpark favorites found in the portable concession carts.

 

Fans visiting the Club Level will find the following changes.

Virgin America Club Level:

·         In partnership with Virgin America, the Club Level has been renamed the Virgin America Club Level and will feature an updated modern paint scheme in red and gray hues along with the signature lighting found on board Virgin America planes.  The Virgin America Club Level will feature a redesigned and fully upgraded Virgin Flight Deck.  This hip, outdoor club-like environment is located off the Virgin America Club concourse, behind Sections 229 & 230, overlooking 2nd and King Streets.  The Flight Deck includes new seating, the Widmer Brothers Fan Haus bar and two fire pits surrounded by wind screens to create a more protected fan environment.  The Flight Deck also features some of the best views available in the ballpark.

In addition, Virgin America today unveiled the newest member of its fleet – an Airbus A320 aircraft named “Fly Bye Baby,” permanently named and painted in honor of the Giants.  The plane will launch into service with flights nationwide on April 2.  Giants games and feature programming will also be carried on Virgin America’s state-of-the-art-entertainment system.

The Giants will feature a number of new giveaways this season, including two garden gnomes – the hottest trend in promotional giveaways.  A Brian Wilson Gnome presented by CSN-Bay Area will be given away to the first 25,000 fans on Sunday, May 20 when the Giants take on the Oakland A’s.  Due to the popularity of this item, the Giants added another promotional day on Saturday, September 22 vs. the San Diego Padres.  The first 25,000 fans will receive a Pablo Sandoval Gnome presented by AAA.

There will be four bobblehead giveaways: Sergio Romo presented by Box (May 5); members of the 2002 Giants team presented by Chevron ExtraMile (June 30); Madison Bumgarner presented by PG&E (July 15); and Pablo Sandoval (August 26).  The first 25,000 fans will receive a bobblehead. Other notable promotions include Orange Friday Knit Hat presented by Coca-Cola (April 27) and Orange Friday Texting Gloves presented by AT&T (May 4).  2012 Kids promotions include a Tim Lincecum Wall Sticker (April 29); a Giants Superhero Cape presented by Powerade (June 9) and the Giants Snap Watch (July 29).

On Saturday, June 2, the Giants and the Chicago Cubs will Turn Back the Clock to 1912 as they wear uniforms styled from that time period.

New events, which require a special ticket purchase, include Irish Heritage Night with professional golfer Rory McIIroy (June 12); New York Giants Night (June 26) marking the 55th anniversary of the last Giants’ game played at the Polo Grounds; the First Annual Giants Gilroy Garlic Fest (June 29); Jerry Garcia’s 70th Birthday Celebration (August 1); and Bruce Lee Tribute Night (September 14).
